Experience supporting individuals with a variety needs and goals.

I have worked in private practice, community organizations, and education. I will support the direction that your counselling path takes you.

Counselling for Adults

If you are looking to gain insight or clarity on issues that have been challenging for a week, months, or perhaps years, individual therapy may be a great option for such exploration. In this one-on-one setting, you will be offered a warm, caring, and supportive space to explore what contributes to your feelings of being stuck. My approach is to provide counselling with kindness and curiosity.

A few examples of concerns that may lead an individual to seek counselling are:

  • Family issues
  • Parenting concerns
  • Relationship challenges
  • Traumatic experiences
  • Grief and loss
  • Addiction
  • Overwhelming emotions like anger, sadness, anxiety, or guilt.

In our work together, I will tailor my approach to you and what best fits your needs. My approach is eclectic and may draw on other evidence-based approaches such as Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

You do not need to cope with these challenges alone.

Counselling for Youth 12+

It is quite common for young people to be reluctant to share their concerns with their parents for many reasons. Although this can be difficult for parents, the most important thing is that their child is talking to someone that they can trust.   Some challenges that youth may face are:

  • Peer and social issues
  • Dating
  • Family relationships
  • School, work and future pressures
  • Substance Use/Misuse
  • Self-harm/Suicidal Concerns
  • Anxiety
  • Depression

Adolescence can be both an exciting and challenging time. Normalizing counselling to support a young person's mental health will help set the stage for well being in adulthood. I have many years of experience working with youth and young adults in various settings and I would love to help.

Therapy Approaches

spa

Internal Family Systems

IFS views the mind as a system of different "parts" each with its own feelings and beliefs. The goal of this approach is to achieve inner harmony by helping an individual connect with their core "Self" to understand and heal these parts, rather than resisting them.

EMDR

EMDR is a psychotherapy approach that helps people heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences. This method is thought to help the brain reprocess the memory, reducing its emotional impact and helping the individual to form more adaptive feelings and beliefs about the event.

Solution Focused Therapy

Solution-focused therapy is a goal-oriented approach. It works by identifying a client's strengths, skills, and resources to draw on past successes in order to create a clear vision for the future.

Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy views people as separate from their problems by focusing on the stories they tell about their lives. It helps individuals to externalize issues, viewing them as separate from their identity, to understand their experiences in a way that highlights their strengths, skills, and values.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

CBT helps you catch the thoughts that are running the show behind the scenes. Once you see the pattern, you can shift it, and suddenly your anxiety, self-doubt, or spiraling has way less power.

Taking the first step can be the most challenging part of the journey towards mental wellness, but it can also be the most rewarding.
